Called to “Love God and Neighbor Without Distinction,” we were founded in Lyon, France, in 1808 and now have sisters and lay partners in 15 countries. We have lived and served in Maine since 1906, with many of our U.S. sisters having also served in missions around the U.S. and the world. In Maine we have worked in education, healthcare, pastoral and social work, spirituality, social justice, care for the earth. and more. Today, we sisters, associates, and agrégée live our life and mission in partnership with others: volunteering with local anti-poverty efforts, providing spirituality programs, sharing the land we steward for earth education and community building via the St. Joseph Nature Sanctuary, visiting nursing home residents, joining efforts to support the families of the incarcerated, immigrants, LGBTQ+ persons, and praying with and for the needs of the ‘dear neighbor’ around the world.
