Mother Francis Clare (Margaret Anna Cusack) founded our Congregation 142 years ago in Nottingham, England to "promote the peace of the church through word and work." She sought “brave, noble, large minded, courageous souls” for her new order. Today, we welcome new members to step into the future with us as we continue to seek justice and pursue God’s gift of peace amid the turmoil and anxiety of our modern world. Community life sustains us in ministry, while ministry enlivens and enriches our life in community. Recognizing gospel peace as both gift and task, we believe that prayer is fundamental to our life. We rely on the love and fidelity of God to lead us into the way of peace. We serve in the Eastern and Western United States and the United Kingdom. Our ministries are many and varied: healthcare, education, spirituality, women and families, and justice advocacy.
